East Champaran, 26 November . There were continuous complaints about poisonous, smelly and rotten water coming out of Sugauli sugar mill. Seeing the increasing problems of the local people, this issue was prominently reported in many newspapers, after which the administration came into action. Taking the matter seriously, the authorities have appointed an investigation team and started inspection of the affected areas.

On Wednesday, Sachin Kumar, Junior Engineer of PHED Department, Sugauli Branch, inspected several hand pumps and tap-water connections located around the sugar mill. He took water samples as samples from the handpump of Vinda Sah located in Pandey Tola of Phulwaria Panchayat, the tap water connection of the house of Barrister Mahato, resident of ward number two, the handpump of Dhananjay Puri in Kanihar locality of the city and the handpump of Mukesh Prasad in city ward number four Bahurupiya locality.

Departmental JE Sachin Kumar took the water samples taken from all these places with him for testing. He said that it is mandatory for drinking water to be pure, hence it will be tested on scientific parameters. PH value, TDS level, turbidity, alkalinity and other important parameters in water will be checked. According to JE, samples have been taken from four different places and a detailed report will be prepared within 72 hours.

Local people say that drinking water sources are being affected due to the waste water of the sugar mill, due to which health risks are increasing. With the initiation of administrative action, there is hope among the people that this problem will soon be solved and there will be relief from the problem of contaminated water.
