Patna, October 18 (NEWS IN BIHAR). With the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, the activities being broadcast on social media platforms are being monitored by the Economic Offenses Unit of Bihar Police.
Continuous action is being taken by the Social Media Monitoring Cell of the Economic Offenses Unit as per the guidelines and standard operating procedure related to social media of the Election Commission. Information about the action taken so far by the Economic Offenses Unit is given.
Social media monitoring is being done by the Economic Offenses Unit in three shifts to ensure prompt action on any objectionable, misleading or code of conduct violation related content. If illegal, objectionable or inflammatory content is found in any social media group, strict legal action will be taken against the group administrator and active members.
The handles or platforms where misleading, false or inflammatory content is repeatedly found are being placed on a continuous watch list and in case of repeated occurrences, blocking action will be taken.
It was told that till now a total of 6 FIRs have been registered against 14 operators of 22 links and objectionable, misleading and inflammatory posts on social media and relevant sections of the Code of Conduct, Representation of the People Act and IT Act have been used. On which further action is being taken as per law.
Action has been taken to remove and lock a total of 100 objectionable posts, operators and links by sending notices to social media platforms X, Meta YouTube etc.
A total of 135 social media handles and profiles have been identified which have been kept under continuous surveillance, including 40 social media platforms, 40 operators, 28 YouTube channels and digital media platforms. Contains 77 different social media profiles.
The Economic Offenses Unit has appealed to the common citizens to use social media responsibly and restrainedly and to refrain from sharing any kind of misleading, false or objectionable material. If any person shares material on social media that spreads objectionable, inflammatory rumors or violates the model code of conduct, then strict legal action will be taken against him.
