
Bettiah, 26 November . Black potato crop is flourishing in the Tharu dominated area of ??West Champaran district. Farmer Ramesh Mahato of Daruabari told that he has taken black potato seeds and planted them in his fields. Black potato crop has been planted as an experiment, which has many medicinal properties. It also has anti-cancer properties. The anti-oxidant content of this black potato is three times that of normal potatoes, hence it is tasty and also full of many qualities.
Ramesh said that black potato cultivation can open doors to a new promising area for the farmers here. Now the seeds have been ordered as an experiment. Its price is Rs 200 per kg. In this regard, seed seller Sanjeev Kumar, resident of Upper Camp, said that the production of potatoes is about three times more than normal potatoes. Its leaf is smaller than that of common potato. The upper surface of black potato is black and the inner part is purple. It contains high amount of anthocyanin, which gives it a deep purple color. Black potatoes contain two to three times more anti-oxidants than normal potatoes. That’s why it tastes delicious too.
Apart from being delicious, black potato is also full of medicinal properties. For this reason, diabetic patients can also eat it. Besides, it also has anti-cancer properties. It is also considered good for the heart. Its yield is also higher than that of common potato. Due to low glycemic index, it is safe for diabetic patients.
Agricultural scientist Vinay Singh said that black potatoes are rich in anthocyanin and potassium, which are naturally occurring anti-oxidants. It also contains carcinogens, which provide protection from cancer.
It contains vitamins, iron, zinc, minerals as well as medicinal elements like fluoric acid, copper, manganese and fiber. Due to its low glycemic index, it is also safe for diabetic patients. Due to high fiber content, it is also beneficial for heart patients.
