Patna, 30 September (NEWS IN BIHAR). Bihar State Congress President Rajesh Ram said that the recent special revision of voter list in Bihar has been a deception from the very beginning. This was a process for which neither the public nor the political parties had demanded. Yet this was done with such carelessness and opaqueness that the Supreme Court of India had to intervene repeatedly, so that at least the basic principles of natural justice were followed.
He said that now Gyanesh Kumar of the Election Commission is calling it successful, whereas in reality its fairness and transparency are under question. Our workers will conduct a thorough assessment across the state as to how many names have been removed from the list and how many have been added through the voter list special revision. This issue will not end here.
It is noteworthy here that around 65 lakh names were removed from the draft list, while only around 21.53 lakh new names were added. That means the number of names removed is very high and it is a matter of serious concern.
He said that the names of many eligible voters were deliberately deleted from the voter list. The success of the transparency, fairness and democratic spirit of the voter list special revision process will be tested not only on paper, but in the context of ground truth and protection of voters’ rights.
We appeal to all activists, citizens and political parties to objectively evaluate this so-called “successful” process, so that not a single eligible citizen’s name is left out of the voter list.
We will fight for the rights of voters till the last breath.
