
Gopalganj, 30 September (NEWS IN BIHAR). The meeting of the district unit of Bharatiya Kisan Union was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of District President Mithilesh Kumar Rai.
A large number of members of the union attended the meeting and the burning problems of the farmers were discussed in depth. It was unanimously decided in the meeting that the union will continue to struggle to get fair prices to the sugarcane farmers. The union leaders said that in the present circumstances, farming is becoming a loss-making deal. Even today, sugarcane farmers are not getting fair price for their produce.
In view of rising inflation and cost of production, the union has demanded from the Chief Minister to fix the price for sugarcane farmers of the district at the rate of Rs 500 per quintal. In this regard, a demand letter will also be submitted to the government through the District Officer. Other problems of farmers were also discussed in detail in the meeting. District ministers Tej Pratap Singh, Yogendra Singh, Sabha Prasad, Mohan Singh, Sudarshan Yadav, Pradeep Kumar Rai and Satya Prakash Rai said that farmers had to face a lot of trouble due to severe shortage of fertilizers in the Kharif season.
In such a situation, it is now necessary for the government to provide adequate quantity of fertilizer during the sowing of wheat in Rabi season. The union strongly raised the demand for ensuring timely supply of fertilizers and pesticides. The leaders said that farmers are not getting the right price for their hard work. Farmers are frustrated due to the government’s negligence in paying fair prices for paddy and other grains. It was also decided in the meeting that if the prices of sugarcane and other crops were not increased and fertilizer and seeds were not supplied on time, then the union would be forced to adopt the path of agitation.
Farmer leaders also appealed to the district administration to pay serious attention to the problems of the farmers. He said that farming is the main source of livelihood of the farmers and if their problems are not solved then it will directly affect the economy of the district. Bharatiya Kisan Union said in the meeting that now farmers are ready to organize and raise their voice regarding their problems. From the sugarcane price increase to the availability of fertilizers and medicines, the fight will be fought from the district level to the state level on the basic demands of the farmers.
