erosion scene

Bhagalpur, 29 October . About 200 feet of Narkatiya Zamindari Dam located in Bihpur block of the district has been lost to erosion. This erosion has happened due to receding water. Although there is no danger of flood due to this erosion, people of more than half a dozen villages are facing severe problems in transportation. On the other hand, this erosion has created an atmosphere of chaos in the surrounding areas. Although there is no danger of any major disaster due to the low water level of river Ganga at this time, there is resentment among the people regarding administrative negligence.

Due to the collapse of the road, traffic from Narkatiya to other villages has come to a complete standstill. Animal herders and travelers are facing a lot of problems. Villagers say that this dam had become weak due to lack of repair and maintenance for the last several years. Complaints were made repeatedly about cracks during the rainy season, but departmental officials and public representatives never showed seriousness in this regard. This dam has always been a big issue during the election season, but as soon as the elections are over, both the leaders and the administration forget this problem. The incident took place near the garden of villagers Kaushal Rai and Ravindra Nath Thakur, where the Ganga stream was slowly eroding below the dam.

Due to erosion, the movement of farmers of villages like Narkatiya, Gauripur, Jamaldipur, Usmanpur, Niranjan Nagar, Lattipur etc. came to a standstill. However, it may take several days for traffic to resume. People say that if permanent repairs are not made soon, there could be a big danger in the next flood. There is currently a decline in the water level of Ganga, due to which the situation is under control. Experts believe that soil erosion is continuing below the dam, which may cause serious trouble in the future.
