Gopalganj, October 17 (NEWS IN BIHAR). Today was the eighth and last day of nomination for the first phase of Bihar Assembly general elections. On Friday, a huge crowd of candidates and supporters gathered at the nomination sites across the district. The process of nomination of various political parties and independent candidates started from 10 am in the morning, which continued till late evening.

A total of 52 candidates filed nominations on the last day from six assembly seats of the district, Baikunthpur, Barauli, Gopalganj, Kuchaikot, Bhore and Hathua. Till now, a total of 72 candidates have staked their claim in the election fray. Those who filed nominations include many independent candidates including NDA, India Alliance, Jan Suraj, Bahujan Samaj Party.

Prominent names included Omprakash Garg from Congress, Subash Singh from BJP, Dilip Singh from RJD, Reyajul Haq Raju from Bahujan Party, Indira Yadav, wife of former MP Sadhu Yadav, Faiz Ahmed from Jan Suraj, Pappu Pandey from JDU, and Manjeet Kumar Singh.

Tight security arrangements were made in the District Election Office premises during the nomination process. The movement of vehicles was controlled with the deployment of police force. Officials said that the scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on October 18, while the last date for withdrawal of nominations is fixed for October 21.
