jeevika didi

Saharsa, 25 October .

Amidst the faith, enthusiasm and joy of Chhath Puja, the holy festival of great faith of Hindus, the Jeevika Didis of the district have shown their deep devotion towards democracy. Today, on the holy day of Nahay-Khay, he fulfilled his responsibility and took a unique initiative to light the torch of voting awareness.

This initiative is part of the ongoing voter awareness campaign in the district under the SVEEP programme. On this occasion, Didis made an emotional appeal to their voter brothers and said that just as sisters wish for the long life and happiness and prosperity of their brothers, similarly we request our brothers to reach the polling station on the day of voting and strengthen democracy with their vote.

This initiative is a symbol of the fact that the women of Saharsa are now not only the pivot of family and society, but have also become strong guardians of democracy. Today, hundreds of didis of various village organizations of Jeevika participated in this grand program organized in the middle school premises, Millat Nagar, Patarghat. The program started with the voter oath. After this, an inspirational voter awareness rally was taken out, in which the sisters came out in the streets of the village with colorful placards and banners in their hands. The whole atmosphere echoed with slogans like voting first, then refreshments, “My vote, my rights” and “The pride of democracy – voting”.

In the program, the sisters presented the message of voter awareness in a creative and attractive manner through Rangoli and Mehndi competition. These competitions attracted the attention of the villagers and explained the importance of voting in a simple, emotional and motivational manner. The biggest feature of the program was the inspirational presence of voter Jeevika Didi Kosila Devi, aged over 90 years. Even at this stage of his age, his enthusiasm and zeal was worth seeing. With mehendi written on voter awareness message in one hand and a placard motivating voting in the other hand, Kosila Devi was appealing to the people to vote. His active participation deeply impressed all present and gave a wonderful message of dedication to democracy.

DPM Jeevika Shlok Kumar said – This initiative of Jeevika Didis on a holy festival like Chhath is inspiring for the society. When women are aware, the entire society becomes aware. The Didis of Saharsa have become the real power of democracy.”
