In this time’s assembly elections, the role of youth in the politics of the district is being considered to be the most decisive.
In the six assembly constituencies of the district, Baikunthpur, Barauli, Gopalganj, Kuchaikot, Bhore and Hathua, there are a total of 4 lakh 17 thousand 777 young voters who have the ability to change the fate of the candidates. There has been a significant increase in the number of young voters this time compared to the 2020 elections. According to the District Election Office, the highest number of new voters aged 18-19 years is 5,993 in Gopalganj Assembly constituency, while the lowest is 5,161 youth in Barauli Assembly who will exercise their franchise for the first time.
It is clear from the data that the share of young voters in every assembly constituency is so important that if they come together and vote in favor of any candidate or party, the entire electoral mathematics can change. Political analysts believe that this time’s election may prove to be a battle of youth versus traditional equation.
Issues like unemployment, education, technological development, startups and local employment are important for the youth, and they are inclined towards those candidates who are presenting a concrete vision on these issues. The market of discussions going on in the colleges and educational institutions of the district is hot that the youth are alert and vocal about voting this time.
Seeing the increasing influence of young voters, all the major parties BJP, JDU, RJD, Congress and Jan Suraj are making strategies to reach out to the youth through social media and digital platforms. Even in ticket distribution, parties have tried to cater to this class by giving opportunities to many young faces. Especially first-time voters are at the center of the election campaign. Election office officials say that this time the voting percentage is expected to increase in the district, because young voters are not only aware of their rights, but are also motivating others to vote.
